What's best on Nissan X-Trail?

Finally we able to write the first impression review for the new Nissan X-Trail 2014 who recently launched on The Space Senayan City last Friday (13/09).  Let’s see whether the new X-Trail could compete against its current rival, enjoy the article.

Exterior Design

First time seeing the new X-Trail 2014, it really doesn’t surprised us anymore, due to it already world premiered at the Frankfurt Motorshow 2013, followed at the Tokyo Motor Show, and Geneva Motor Show. We really waiting for the car to be available for Indonesia market, but Nissan Indonesia decide to make it as CKD, and make it took almost one year to prepare the manufacturing facilities and launch the model for our market.

From the exterior, the new X-Trail doesn’t have a significant differences compare to the global model. We still could found the Nissan distinctive V-Shape grille and a profiled front bumper to give a better aerodynamics. To strengthen the toughness ambiance, Nissan also apply the black wheel arches molding made of plastic from front bumper, to side, to the rear.

The New X-Trail also use the new Nissan’s signature headlamp, with boomerang shape LED DRL and LED projector headlamp. At all type, the X-Trail also equipped with an auto on/off headlight sensor that will automatically torn on the light when the surrounding is dark.

For the manual automatic version, no auto leveling headlight like equipped in the 2.0 CVT and 2.5 CVT. But other features, such as follow me home and welcome light has been set as standard.

From the side view, the new X-Trail looks more streamline than the previous version, frankly it looks like other Japanese SUV, too bad Nissan leave the boxy looks that contribute to a more tougher looks for this new model, and choose a more stylish design.

We also going to find chrome accent at the side window bezel, door handle, and the simple roof rail (the previous X-Trail are equipped with a massive roof rail with lights at the roof), special for the 2.5 liter version, a side body moulding also equipped as standard.

At the rear, we will find a rear end that quite similar with the Toyota Harrier, due to the rear light design. A rear spoiler and another chrome accent at top of the plate number is standard for all version.

A new feature for car in this segment, the power tailgate (an electric operated rear door) with a touchless backdoor technology will help us to open the door without have to touch anything. We only have to wave our hand at under the number plate garnish section, the sensor will detect the hand movement and open the rear door electronically. This feature really useful if you bring a lot of groceries and need to put it on the boot, with ease.

The alloy wheels for the new X-Trail also available in two types depends on the version. For the 2.5 liter CVT we will get the propeller design with 18 inch and Dunlop Grandtrek 225/60 tyres, for the 2.0 liter version, we will get a smaller 17 inch size, and 225/65 Dunlop Grandtrek tyres.

For the braking, the All New X-Trail is equipped with 4 disc brakes, ABS technology, EBD, and BA. Other driving features such as Hill Start Assists, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Active Trace Control, and Active Ride Control are available as standard, maybe this safety features are one of the best in its class.

Nissan also make a smart design, by putting the small camera under the Nissan Logo at the front grille, while under the left and right side mirror a pair of camera also equipped. All three camera and one rear parking camera will be functioned as a integrated all round view monitor and create a bird’s eye view to help us in parking the car. This advance camera features is equipped only at the CVT variant, besides that, the new X-Trail also equipped with a side mirror heater, that usually applied in 4 season country.

Although it already equipped with All Round View Monitor, the car is equipped with 4 parking sensors, so don’t have to worry about the parking aid system for the manual version that hasn’t equipped with an All Round View Monitor. Too bad Nissan Indonesia didn’t equipped it with a Moving Object Detection features who will detect a moving vehicles from the side when we in a backward position, or the Intelligent Park Assists who will park the car by itself.
